An unofficial women’s world land speed record was set in the Alvord Desert by Kitty O’Neil at 512 miles/hour (843 km/hour) in 1976. The area is 12 miles long by 7 miles wide, giving a large area for this. Land Speed Racingīecause of how flat and vast this area is, many official and unofficial land speed races have happened here.
